"Every Day Counts" 'every student in class every day'
Choral Fest 2009
Our Senior Choir performed admirably at this year’s Choir Fest. Throughout the day they performed two choral pieces “Uji River” and “Keep your Hand on that Plow”. The Adjudicator comments were as follows:
¯ You look absolutely wonderful in your uniforms
¯ A very well disciplined group – great work
¯ Fantastic repertoire choice – showing change of mood, style even nationality. Singing other languages is so good for our choirs. Love your decrescendo at the end of Uji River.
¯ Thank you for a great performance
During the evening performance our school was one of the finalists and did a great job. We were very proud of their performance. The Wide Bay winners were Kawungan State School. All choirs in this competition then performed as a mass choir and did a superb job of the piece that they had practiced throughout the day. It was wonderful to see this performance. A huge thank you needs to go to Ms Tracey Wright from the Maryborough Youth Choir who stepped in at the last moment to conduct our choir. Ms Wright also enjoyed conducting our choir and our students responded really well to her style. To Mr and Mrs Hodgkinson, Mrs Winkler and Mrs McGrath our sincere appreciation for supporting our Choir to enable them to perform in the Choral Fest. Our biggest thank you goes to Mrs Bath who prepared our Choir for this event.
Starlab Planetarium
Last Wednesday Year 3 students viewed a presentation through the Starlab Planetarium. The presentation covered night and day around the world, the reasons for seasons, phases of the moon and our solar system. The activity hall became a unique night viewing room once the lab inflated looking like a huge igloo in the middle of the hall. This unique presentation was a fantastic learning opportunity for our students with one student heard to comment “it is really cool”.
Pet Pep program
Last Tuesday Year 4 students participated in the “Pet Pep” program. Topics covered were Caring for your Pet’s Health and the role of a Veterinarian, responsible pet ownership, dog handling and training. Each group rotated around these presentations and enjoyed contact with our animal friends while significant information about looking after their own pets. We thank our team of guests who do a wonderful job of speaking to our students.
Chaplaincy Program
At our last Chaplaincy committee meeting a discussion was held about a fundraising project to support our service. We are launching details of this initiative at the fun fair so please make sure you drop into Chappy’s room which is on the bottom floor of B Block to find out about Jar Labels. We are also asking our school community if they have or can start collecting coffee jars could these be brought into the school office by Thursday 22 October and can we continue this collection for the remainder of this term.
Family Fun Fair
Our Family Fun Fair is this coming Friday 23 October from 5.00-8.30pm. Please make sure you obtain your tickets for the Lucky Wheel and Prepaid rides before the event so as not to miss out and please keep donations coming in for the tombola. Included in this newsletter is a map of our Fun Fair site so that you know where everything is on the night. We are really looking forward to having a terrific evening of entertainment and fun.
Please note: NO SMOKING POLICY - Family Fun Fair is a school activity and as such the Government’s Non Smoking Policy applies to this event. This means that there is no smoking on school grounds or in school buildings and you can be asked to put out your cigarette or even asked to leave the school grounds.

Arts Council News
Term 4 Arts Council performance “The Beatty Clan Crew” will be held this Wednesday 21 October for Prep to Year 7 (not including Year 3’s). Cost will be $6 per student or $15 for family of 3 or more. Envelopes have been sent home today.
Fusing traditional Australian Indigenous dance with modern hip hop and funk, The Beatty Clan Crew teaches students about Australia’s unique history of dance. This internationally renowned family group, including Taryn Laleen, Sam Dynamyte, Lil’ Mo’ and Ninni, perform a repertoire of dance styles including electric boogie, beat boxing, hip hop dancing, along with traditional Torres Strait Island songs and drumming. This production is a fresh and contemporary journey that fuses aspects of Indigenous and youth cultures, illustrating how music and dance is fundamental to both.
Starlab Planetarium
Last Wednesday, all Year 3 students attended astronomical presentations within the Starlab Planetarium which was set up in the Activity Hall.
Looking like a silver mushroom dome, entrance to the Starlab was via a tunnel which everyone was required to crawl through simulating the night sky, the overexcited students were treated to visual displays that couldn’t be duplicated in the classroom.
Everyone who attended were impressed and all enjoyed the experience.
Student comments:
“It was amazing. It was beautiful. I loved it”. Alyssa
“It was so cool” Finn
“I felt like I was spinning. It was really fun” Krista
“It was exciting going through the tunnel. My favourite part was seeing the pictures in the sky” Brianna J.
